Existing workspaces remain accessible until March 22, 2027, when all data will be permanently deleted. Developers must export their projects before this date.

Shutdown Timeline

Firebase Studio (launched in preview in April 2025, taking over Project IDX) is being wound down in two phases. Understanding the timeline is critical for planning your migration.

Key distinction: Firebase Studio was a cloud IDE — a browser-based development environment for building and deploying apps. It is completely separate from Firebase’s core BaaS services (Firestore, Auth, Hosting, etc.), which continue to operate normally. If you only use Firebase for backend services, this shutdown does not affect you.

AI Studio — Full-Stack Apps in the Browser

Google AI Studio builds full-stack web apps from prompts in the browser, with Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication built in. Google recommends it if you built your app with Firebase Studio's App Prototyping agent and value rapid, prompt-based prototyping.
